saw GP today , she said i am not classified anaemic yet
the range for heamoglobin is 11.5 and i measured at 11.6  0006 but she said it is only a matter of time as my ferritin was also 9.1 so
i got ferrous formate.. to take one  a day for three months
i started it to day with a glass of orange juice.. the pharmacist said to start with orange juice for a month after that i can use vitamin C , he said this way my body does not react too badly to it.....

how quickly does iron start to take effect ? what else can i do apart from red meat to get the levels up !

So Gp gave me ferrous fumarate 322mg 100mg tablets .
Has anyone had this before? Can I take 2 or 1 a day.
How quickly does it start to act ?
Do you take it on an empty stomach ?

Hi Ceste, you dont have to have it on an empty stomach, just make sure its a few hours from Levo and dont take it with milky products, I started iron 8 weeks ago and dont feel any diffferent so Ive upped my dose today to two a day to see if its gentler on my stomach, so, sorry cant answer how long it will take, someone on here has mentioned spatone ? iron drink, you can get it from boots but havent tried it, also if you have heavy periods it could take a very long time . And I believe (although I could be wrong) about only 10% of each tablet gets absorbed into your system, good luck sp017

Oh yeah I understand because we are all different.
I will try spatone as well to see if it will help.
So what dose of iron are you taking and how many tabs
My dose is 1 daily but the leaflet says to increase to 2 in serious cases
Wondering if I should increase it to 2
I don't want to spend a long time on this ferritin business !

bxb!!x Cest, Im on 200mgs of ferrous sulphate twice a day, be careful if you up the dose as they can give you stomach cramps, regarding the breathlessness, If I walk upstairs to use the loo Im glad just to catch my breath whilst sitting down #:-S, if I carry the washing upstairs, I just sit on the bed to sort them out, or just crash out on the sofa if Ive exerted myself too much, Im also asthmatic so I sometimes take my inhaler, sp017

Ok , I get the breathlessness and heartburns but this is all new to me. Why does the                                                                               breathlessness happen mostly at night time I find that scary if I am honest, and the palpitations too. Do you get that ? how do u manage it.

Hi Cest, I was waking up in the night breathless too and it can be frightening but once I had read up about anaemia and I understood it more it didnt bother me, but it can be frightening, just try not to exert yourself too much, eventually when your ferretin gets back to a normal level it should subside :)

Just wondering if this is due to low ferritin
When I lie down my legs feel like it is about to go numb starts right from my thighs feels like something is shrinking it happens to my arms too. I woke up this morning with my right arm so heavy I could barely lift it up...
My ears are ringing too and I seem to have tingles on my face and head .
Brain feels foggy too !
I seem to be reacting to the iron meds , not stomach cramps but headaches, heartburn metallic taste on my tongue etc . Happens nearly always an hour or two after taking iron tabs in the afternoon
